Imagining Worlds Beyond: Fostering Creativity and Exploration with National Geographic Learning

Join author and educator, Kaj Schwermer, as he shares how National Geographic Learning's primary and teens programs nurture this innate curiosity through a curriculum centered around creative thinking, literacy, and real-world engagement. SPEAKERS

Kaj Schwermer is an experienced educator, teacher trainer, and a co-author who has played an integral role in the development of learning resources used worldwide, including materials for early years reading and phonics instruction, primary four skills, and a widely used course for teens in public schools. With National Geographic Learning, he has most recently co-authored several bestselling titles for young learners. Kaj has over 25 years of teaching experience and has conducted numerous teacher training workshops and webinars across Asia. Currently, he runs an after-school program for primary students at a private school in Tokyo, Japan.
Julie Hwang is the marketing manager for young learners and teens at National Geographic Learning. With an extensive background in teacher training across Asia, she is passionate about inspiring teachers through creative ideas that engage students, fostering a deeper understanding of global perspectives and nurturing an appreciation for the world we live in. Julie works closely with partners and educators in the region to bring the world to their classrooms and enrich the student learning experience. In addition to her expertise in teacher training, she has been involved in materials development and has written numerous learning materials for young learners.
Nguyen Hue Chi is the English Language Teaching Specialist for National Geographic Learning Vietnam, where she works with educators, teachers, decision makers and learners to bring the world to the classroom and classroom to life. Chi holds master’s degrees in Applied Linguistics from the University of Queensland, Australia. Chi has over 20 years of experience working with and delivering trainings to thousands of teachers across Vietnam. In addition to academic services and training, Chi is leading collaboration efforts with local partners and key stakeholders to develop engaging, relevant, and appropriate materials for public schools in Vietnam. In her free time, she enjoys biking about and taking photos of the old parts of Hanoi.
Andy Duenas is the Senior ELT Consultant for Academic and Training National Geographic Learning based in Ho Chi Minh City. He has been teaching English language to children and adults since 2008, and has worked in teacher training and development since 2017. For learners, Andy’s approaches focus on getting all students participating, no matter the class size. For teachers, the approach is about helping teachers develop their classroom confidence to teach with passion and purpose.

Do Kieu Linh is a dedicated educator with nearly 10 years of experience in teaching and administration, Linh has made contribution to academic and personal growth of countless EFL students. After earning her Bachelor's degree, she continued to pursue a Master's Degree in Teaching to Speakers of Other Languages (M. A. TESOL) at Victoria University, Melbourne Australia, setting the stage for her future roles in administration. Linh is known for her inclusive approach, always striving to ensure that ESL students feel valued, empowered, and fully integrated into the school environment.

Mr. John Paul Grainger, an educational leader from the UK, has dedicated over 25 years to the field of education in Vietnam. He has played a pivotal role within the IGC group and its affiliated schools in Thailand and Cambodia, contributing significantly to their growth and development. Mr. Grainger has been instrumental in the implementation of National Geographic Learning, emphasizing empowerment, collaboration, and innovation. His leadership approach focuses on both academic excellence and holistic development, aiming to inspire and motivate both students and teachers.
