Teaching for Tomorrow: Integrating Future-Ready Skills in the English Classroom

ABSTRACT

In a rapidly changing, interconnected world, English language teachers play a vital role in preparing learners to thrive beyond the classroom. This session explores what it means to be “future-ready” and how educators can intentionally foster skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, adaptability, and intercultural competence through everyday teaching practices. Participants will examine practical strategies for embedding these competencies into lesson planning and classroom interaction, empowering students to become confident, autonomous communicators equipped to navigate the demands of the global workplace and contribute meaningfully to a diverse, evolving world.

CATARINA PONTES

Educational Manager

Catarina Pontes is an educational manager, speaker, and teacher educator with over 25 years of experience in language teaching. A trained translator-interpreter, she holds specializations in the field, as well as MBAs in Human Resources Management and School Management, and is the co-author of Getting into Teacher Education: a Handbook (by Cengage). She has worked in academic coordination, editorial production, and team management at renowned language institutes and with bilingual education programs. She is the founder of Serendipity Language Services, a tutor for Cambridge English Qualifications courses, and the current Vice-President of BRAZ-TESOL, the largest association of English teachers in Brazil.
 
Mistérios Azuis: Explorando Ilhas Oceânicas Brasileiras

ABSTRACT

O Brasil guarda verdadeiros tesouros pouco conhecidos: o Arquipélago de São Pedro e São Paulo e a Ilha da Trindade, duas ilhas oceânicas remotas e fascinantes, praticamente invisíveis para a maioria dos brasileiros. Nesta sessão, vamos mergulhar nos atributos únicos desses territórios.
Além de apresentar curiosidades e dados sobre essas ilhas, compartilharei minha experiência como explorador da National Geographic, revelando os desafios e descobertas de uma jornada que conecta ciência, educação e conservação. Prepare-se para uma imersão que vai ampliar horizontes e despertar novas possibilidades para a educação.

DANIEL VENTURINI
National Geographic Explorer

Daniel Venturini é um biólogo marinho e filmmaker, com mestrado em ecologia e conservação. Em 2016, ele fundou a Tabuiaiá Films, uma produtora com o objetivo de promover a natureza e a conservação através de narrativas audiovisuais. Como National Geographic Explorer, Daniel traz à tona as ilhas oceânicas mais remotas do Brasil, revelando seus ecossistemas únicos para o público. Por meio de documentários e imersões em realidade virtual, Daniel busca tornar o oceano mais acessível e estimular uma conexão mais profunda com o mundo natural.
