優れた教材を用意することと、生徒にとって意味のある学びを実現することは、必ずしも同じではありません。教材の真の価値は、それをどのように活用し、生徒の主体的な学びへとつなげていくかにあります。
本ウェビナーでは、実際の教育現場における取り組みや指導実践をもとに、教材が教室で息づき、単なる「教えるためのコンテンツ」から「学びを生み出すツール」へと変わる、その瞬間をひも解きます。授業デザインの工夫、生徒のより深い思考を促す活動、そして学習成果につながる実践例をご紹介しながら、英語教育における効果的な教材活用のヒントを探ります。

Excellent educational materials alone do not guarantee meaningful learning. Their true value lies in how they are used to engage students, develop thinking skills, and encourage greater independence as learners.

In this webinar, we will look at how teaching materials can be brought to life in ways that inspire and engage students. Drawing on authentic classroom practice and experience from the field, the presenters will share practical approaches to lesson design, activities that promote deeper thinking, and examples of effective implementation that support observable learning outcomes.

Participants will gain fresh ideas for making better use of the materials available to them and creating more purposeful, engaging learning experiences. This accessible and enjoyable session will be equally relevant to experienced teachers and those who are less confident about adapting content or trying new approaches in the classroom.

学習者の自律性を高めるライティング授業のデザイン
Designing Writing Instruction to Foster Learner Autonomy

大学入試の先を見据え、実践的なライティング力を育むためには、生徒にどのような目標を提示すればよいでしょうか。また、その目標に向けて生徒が自ら学びを進めていくために、どのような支援が必要になるでしょうか。本校の授業でReflect: Reading & Writing (National Geographic Learning)を活用した事例や、実際に授業を受けた生徒の変容等をふまえ、教材の扱い方、生徒の主体的な学びを生み出すための授業デザイン、そして日頃から生徒に伝えていることについてお話しします。
*講演は日本語で行います。

What goals should we set for students if we aim to develop practical writing skills that will serve them beyond university entrance examinations? And what kinds of support can help students take greater responsibility for their own learning as they work toward those goals? In this talk, I will share classroom practices using Reflect: Reading & Writing (National Geographic Learning), along with some of the changes I have observed in students. I will discuss how teaching materials can be used effectively, how lessons can be designed to foster learner autonomy, and some of the key messages I regularly share with my students as they learn to write.
*This presentation will be delivered in Japanese.

バイオグラフィー
東京都内の公立中学校および私立中高一貫校での講師経験を経て、2013年より現職。2018年、東京都の海外派遣研修でオーストラリア、クイーンズランド大学にてTESOLを学ぶ。技能統合を通して生徒が英語で考える授業を追求するとともに、これまでの勤務校で洋書教材を活用した経験を活かし、生徒の目線に立った教材開発にも力を入れている。日頃から、生徒には、英語を単なるコミュニケーションのツールとしてではなく、異なる価値観や物の見方に出会うためのことばとして体験し、他者の物の見方に思いを馳せるような学習者になってほしいと願っている。

Biography
After teaching at public junior high schools and a private secondary school in Tokyo, Yoshinori Terakawa took up his current position in 2013. In 2018, he studied TESOL at the University of Queensland in Australia through an overseas teacher training program offered by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
He is committed to developing integrated-skills lessons that encourage students to think in English, as well as learner-centered materials informed by his experience using internationally published ELT resources. Above all, he hopes his students will come to see English not simply as a tool for communication, but as a language that opens the door to different values and perspectives, helping them grow into learners who can reflect on how others see and understand the world.

リーディングからスピーキングへ：自信を持って発信できる生徒を育てるために
From Reading to Speaking: Building Confident Student Output

アクティブ・ラーニング、生徒の主体的な参加、そして学習者中心の指導。私たち教育者は、限られた授業時間を最大限に活用するために、これらの教育アプローチが重要であると考えています。しかし、こうした手法をどのようにリーディング授業に取り入れればよいのでしょうか。
このインタラクティブなウェビナーでは、発表者が実際の授業で活用している4つの短いコミュニケーション活動を紹介します。これらの活動を通して、生徒が読んだ内容を自分自身の経験と結び付けたり、自分の意見を共有したり、より長い会話を続けたりする力を育成する方法をご紹介します。
また、新刊Reading Discoveries の豊富なコンテンツを活用しながら、これらの活動がどのように足場掛け（スキャフォールディング）として機能し、生徒が自信を持って短いプレゼンテーションを行えるようになるのかを具体的に示します。
本セッションでは、リーディングからスピーキングへと自然につなげる実践的な指導法を学び、学習者のアウトプットを効果的に引き出すためのヒントを得ることができます。

Active Learning. Student engagement. Student-centered instruction. As instructors, we believe in the importance of these pedagogical approaches for maximizing our limited class time with students. But how do we incorporate these strategies into reading classes? During this interactive webinar, the presenter will share four short communication activities that she has used to develop students’ ability to personalize reading material, share opinions, and have longer conversations. Using the content-rich material in Reading Discoveries, she will also show how the activities provide scaffolding so that students have the confidence to give short presentations.

バイオグラフィー
カーメラ リスキー氏は、日本で20年以上にわたり英語教育に携わってきた経験豊富な教育者。英語を単なる教科としてではなく、人々をつなぎ、新たな学びの機会を広げる「生きた言語」として捉え、学生たちがグローバル市民として成長できるよう支援することに情熱を注ぐ。
現在は島根大学で教鞭を執り、これまでに45以上の授業・コースを開発。その教育活動は高く評価されており、「Most Highly Evaluated Instructor at Shimane University」に選出されたほか、「Excellent Education Practice Award」を受賞。
また、教育者としての活動に加え、実践的な指導法や授業運営のアイデアを広く共有することにも力を入れている。インタラクティブな講演や研修を通じて教員を支援するほか、学術論文の執筆にも取り組む。さらに、学生向け教材、ワークブック、教師用指導書など、多数の教育リソースの執筆・制作にも携わる。

Biography
Carmella Lieske has been teaching English in Japan for over 20 years. She is passionate about helping students become global citizens by empowering them to see English as a living language that creates opportunities for exponential learning.  Carmella currently teaches at Shimane University, where she has developed over 45 courses. She has been honored to be chosen the “Most Highly Evaluated Instructor at Shimane University” and selected for the joint “Excellent Education Practice” award. In addition to teaching, she loves sharing practical strategies and teaching tips with others during interactive presentations and by writing academic journal articles as well as student books, workbooks, teacher’s editions, and other teaching resources.
